I’ve been neglecting my personal site from a design and content standpoint for a long time now, and figured that a refresh of one would lead to more updates of the other. We’ll see, but for now, enjoy the new site. The new design is much brighter, better organized and hopefully easier on the eyes. Many thanks to Chris Pearson for his PressRow Wordpress theme. It’s providing the base for the site, onto which I crammed some additional functionality to make it more photo-friendly.

The one casualty of the redesign is the gallery software that I had been using to keep some of my photos online. For now, I’ve moved a couple of galleries to my Photoshelter archive and made them publicly accessible. The ultimate plan is to build a standalone photography site to better showcase my photography. That will come with time. In the meantime, check in at photoshelter for updated photos and galleries as I move some content over there.

I went back and found some old posts that I had put up during our last trip to Europe in 2004. Back then, everything was done with a single static web page and some very limited gallery software. Since donwhitlow.com has existed for a while, but never really gotten off the ground, I thought it would be a good idea to at least consolidate some of the blog’s fits and starts back into one place if for no other reason than to provide a little history.

In the grand scheme of things, I’m still not sure what the site is going to be. I feel like I’m formulating some thoughts on photography, but those may be nothing more than newbie insights into my still-early photographic learning process. At times I feel like I’m taking pictures worth sharing, so I hope for there to be more of those as well. I like documenting the interesting parts of our lives (Mindy’s and mine) such as travel, but those in-between times can seem pretty mundane to outsiders. So, who knows? For now, it is what it is until it’s something else.

In the meantime, enjoy the old posts and some of the pictures. If nothing else, they gave me an excuse to go back and revisit a great trip and the pictures we took then. If I come across any other previous iterations, I’ll likely put those back up as well.
