Unexpected Treasures

Jump to Comments Unexpected Treasures

Mindy and I were in San Francisco over the long Labor Day weekend; mostly to just hang out, see the city, and pretty much just enjoy not being in the Las Vegas heat for at least a couple of days. Apart from various shopping excursions, we visited the SF Museum of Modern Art with its two current photography exhibits, “Martin Munkacsi: Think While You Shoot!” and “Picturing Modernity: The Photography Collection”. Both were interesting, though the latter was more suited to my photographic interests. Aside from the exhibits, the museum itself consists of interesting architecture and as is the measure by which any museum attains world-class status, they have a really cool gift shop.

During one of our shopping excursions, we went to a store called Britex Fabrics on Geary Street. As much as I hate going to fabric stores, I’ve got to say, this one was a complete visual smorgasbord. With all the various colors and textures spread over 4 levels, there were a lot of cool photographic opportunities. The above picture is just one of quite a few that I took that were fun from a color and texture standpoint. I still don’t know that I’m going to make a habit of going to fabric stores any time soon, but it did open my mind to the possibility of finding photos in places I wouldn’t otherwise think to look.
