iPhone Envy

Jump to Comments iPhone Envy

Not being one to give in to my consumption-based, materialistic gadget-cravings, I think I’m going to pass on the whole iPhone craze and wait for version 2.0. Yeah right. I went to the Las Vegas premier for the iPhone at the Fashion Show Apple Store and snapped a couple pictures of the countdown to the launch. Apparently, the guys who were at the front of the line were there since 6:00am that morning. Not too bad considering the length of time others were in line in other cities. When 6:00pm came around, the gates were opened and the first group of new iPhone owners were let in amongst cheers from fellow line-dwellers and Apple Store employees. Because they weren’t letting anyone into the store that wasn’t buying an iPhone, and the line itself was pretty long, I didn’t stay around to actually see it for myself that night.

It wasn’t until Sunday afternoon that I finally got to hold one in my hands. I have to say, it really does seem to work as well as the commercials show. The unit I was playing with was even online via only the AT&T Edge network and I confirmed that wifi was turned off. Even over the slower network, pages loaded pretty quickly; though I wouldn’t go so far as to say fast. Within the interface itself, everything just transitioned from screen to screen and app to app quickly and beautifully. Let’s face it; this is the kind of thing our parents and grandparents read about in ridiculously optimistic predictions of the future. It’s up there with living on the moon, robots ala Rosie from the Jetsons, or those amazing x-Ray specs in the back of comic books. It’s at least that awesome.

I so want one.
